In working with couples, Family Life Credit Services has found that one of the scariest aspects of an engagement can be how the newlyweds will manage finances effectively together. The Christian credit counseling organization has put together a webinar to address the conversations that need to take place between a future husband and wife before that wedding day.

Once the vows have been exchanged and the honeymoon is over, the real task of combining income and bills, budgeting and goal setting begins. Many couples are suddenly overwhelmed with the task and inevitably the discussions can lead to disagreements or even arguments. With a little planning before the big day, couples can transition to a combined financial situation by setting goals and planning for a future together.

Needing, Wanting and Coveting

In many new marriages, one or both members of the couple bring past credit issues along. This can bring additional and unnecessary stress to the new marriage. Many singles get into credit trouble at a young age by using credit cards to make purchases for items that are a want and not a need. Sometimes these purchases are simply an attempt to have what friends and neighbors have.

Its human nature to make these comparisons, but wanting can turn into coveting. Admiring something is one thing, but coveting goes past that, until the desire becomes so engrossing that a person will do almost anything to get it. The irony is that, in many cases, those friends and neighbors dont really have it all and are in fact probably deep in debt for the items they have. Many people have used credit cards and other debt to fund their comfortable lifestyles, but it may not be obvious from looking just on the outside.
